This project is funded by community partners, donation, and is made possible due to the time and effort of local volunteers.

Is this a municipal project?

No this is a project run and made possible by a local non profit organization.

Is The 1895 still owned by the City of Rockdale?

No it was purchased by the Vision Historic Preservation Society of Rockdale.

Why are you changing the way the building has always looked?

While the majority of the details and facade will remain the same we do plan on some updates to allow for more ADA compliance, outdoor space, and multi-use spaces inside. 

Was there originally a bell tower?

Yes, the bell tower was an original feature of the building.

How does the restoration of The 1895 benefit the Rockdale community? Why is this a priority over things like road and water system repair or bringing a hospital to town?

This project has the potential to act as a flagship for the possibilities in Rockdale. By helping to restore and renew the 1895, we can help jumpstart new life in our hometown by providing retail, art spaces, dining, and in general a center for community.
