VISION ROCKDALE GROWS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Four New Directors Elected to Board.
ROCKDALE, TX, JUNE 7, 2023 – Vision Historic Preservation Foundation (Vision Rockdale) is proud to announce the addition of 4 new members to their board this Spring. During their annual outreach and recruitment efforts, Vision Rockdale received 12 applications which were narrowed to 7 candidates who were interviewed by the nominating committee. “We are pleased with the response we had to our board recruitment efforts,” said the Foundation’s Vice-President, Dell Giles, who served on the nominating committee. “We feel it reflects the importance the community sees The 1895’s restoration is making to the revitalization of Rockdale.” The committee nominated, and the board unanimously elected, Rockdale natives Chris Miles and Tamara Hebert Powell and newcomers Lee Brewer and Bebe Saavedra-Villarreal to 3 year terms expiring in February 2026.
“The nomination process was difficult as we had great candidates apply – each brought skills and perspectives we felt were important to the future of the Foundation and our community,” stated Executive Director Curah Beard. “Vision Rockdale has foundational principles to promote diversity and to develop new leaders to benefit the future of the community,” further explained Beard. “Our board’s diversity gives a broader voice to our community and, with 7 of 12 of our board members being under age 40, we are engaging citizens who will be positive change-makers for years to come.”
Vision Rockdale’s board members serve as volunteers and each also participate in the Foundation’s committees focusing on Arts & Outreach, Historical & Cultural Heritage, and Economic Development. Non-board members are also welcome to participate on committees.
